Koh Lipe travel guide

Guide me around Koh Lipe

Thailand’s southernmost island, Koh Lipe, is just a few kilometers away from the paradise of Langkawi in Malaysia, in the Andaman Sea. The island is part of the Tarutao Marine National Park, which comprises 51 islands, some of which are open to visitors. Koh Lipe is a fantastic destination for enjoying white sand beaches, lush nature, and exciting day trips. To reach Koh Lipe, head to Pak Bara Pier on the mainland, where speedboats depart year-round for the island.

Best beaches to visit on Koh Lipe

Beaches & Bays
Koh Lipe is beloved by many travelers for its stunning white sand beaches that evoke images of paradise. The island has three main beaches, but if you prefer more secluded spots, you can still find them on Koh Lipe.

Sunrise Beach (Hat Chao Ley): As the name suggests, this is the perfect spot to catch the sunrise and photograph the traditional longtail fishing boats. You can take long walks, relax, or snorkel here.

Sunset Beach (Hat Pramong): Grab a refreshing fruit juice and watch the beautiful sunset. During the day, you can snorkel around the colorful coral reef and enjoy the tranquility with only a few restaurants and bars.

Pattaya Beach: This beach is one of the island’s main attractions and tends to be a bit busier. It offers great seafood at the restaurants near the Walking Street entrance.

Hidden Beaches: There are also some hidden gems to explore, such as Pitiusas Beach, Secret Beach (on the west coast beyond Sanom Beach Resort, accessible by kayak or longtail boat), and Bulow Beach (on the north coast beyond Mountain Resort).

best things to do on Koh Lipe

more activities
For the best view over Koh Lipe, head over to Koh Adang (taxi boats are available on Sunrise Beach, enquire about shuttles during your travel period) and start your hike from the ranger’s office. The best viewpoint is the third one, which is an hour’s trek away. Don’t forget to bring water, as there are no tourist facilities on Koh Adang. If you plan to spend more time on the island, be sure to visit some of its secluded pristine beaches with freshwater lagoons, snorkel off the coast, and visit the small restaurant at the National Park headquarters.

There’s a viewpoint on Koh Lipe itself that is worth a visit during the early morning or late afternoon. Make your way to the southwestern tip of the island just after ‚The Cliff Resort‘, where a dirt path offers great views of the surrounding islands.

For a relaxing treat after a strenuous kayak trip to Koh Usen or Koh Khra, get a Thai massage, dine at one of the seafood BBQ shops on Walking Street, or join a meditation class during sunrise on the beach.
