Krabi is a stunning province located in southern Thailand, known for its natural beauty, pristine beaches, and breathtaking scenery. It is characterized by its limestone islands, white sandy beaches, rainforest waterfalls, and caves, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. The provincial capital, Krabi Town, is famous for its delicious cuisine and lively night markets. It is an ideal starting point for exploring the mangroves, caves, and secluded beaches that the province has to offer.
Not yet sure where to travel after Krabi?
Krabi is a large province with more than just beaches. You can explore a variety of natural sites just outside the city center. Take a walk on a wooden path through mangroves to see one of the most important ecosystems in the world.
If you’re interested in caves, there are two beautiful caves near Krabi town. You can reach the Khao Khanab Nam Cave by longtail boat, which can be hired at the pier. It takes about 15 minutes to get to the iconic landmarks and the cave. The Tham Phi Hua To Cave can be reached by kayak or boat and features beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
If you want to experience the beautiful landscape and nature, visit one of the two national parks. We recommend the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park over the Than Bok National Park because it has more pristine nature, more wildlife, and more beautiful hiking trails. You will need your vehicle or a taxi to reach the national park. The Than Bok National Park is smaller and more like an urban forest. However, both are fascinating and a perfect escape from the city.
Finally, don’t miss the Sa Morakot Emerald Pool, one of the highlights of the province. It is located in the national park of the same name and is a truly magical place. The turquoise-colored water is perfect for cooling off after a walk through the jungle. It is best to go there early in the morning to enjoy this unique place for yourself.
Rai Leh West Beach is the most popular and stunning beach in Krabi and also one of the finest in Thailand. However, it can only be accessed by boat and is quite touristy due to its high demand.
If you’re looking for quieter beaches, we suggest checking out Tonsai Beach, Hat Phra Nang Beach, and Hat Nooppharat Thara Beach. You can also organize tours and boats to nearby islands like Ko Yao Noi Island from Krabi or Ao Nang. For more tips, please refer to the „Activity“ section of this guide.
What could be better than exploring the city and various temples after a morning at the beach? Krabi and the nearby town of Ao Nang are both highly recommended destinations for travelers. While Krabi town is more traditional and peaceful, Ao Nang is livelier and more bustling.
The landmark of Krabi, a famous crab statue, sits on the riverside of the town. The statue is located near Walking Street and two other markets, where you can find food at any time of the day.
One of the most special places in Krabi province is the Wat Tham Sua Tiger Cave temple. Here, you can see a large Buddha statue sitting atop a mountain and enjoy a breathtaking view of the pristine nature. Another must-visit temple complex is Wat Kaeo Korawaram.
If you’re looking for a lively evening in Krabi and Ao Nang, you’ll find that things usually start to pick up after sunset. During the day, the two towns may seem quiet, but at night, the streets come alive with activity.
If you’re interested in a fun party scene, we recommend checking out the Pub Crawl Tour in Ao Nang. This tour will take you to various bars around the city, where you can enjoy drinks and socializing. After the tour, you can continue your party on the beach or at the RCA Entertainment Center, where you can dance and celebrate until the sun comes up.
However, if you’re staying in Krabi town and don’t feel like venturing out to Ao Nang, you can still have a great evening. Krabi’s Walking Street is a popular spot for bars, food stalls, and street performers at night, giving the town a vibrant and lively atmosphere.
There are numerous tours available in Krabi, some of which are excellent while others are not so great. But how can you find the best tour for yourself? You need to be clear about what you want to see on the tour and compare various providers.
As a general overview of the tour options, we recommend the following activities:
These tours and many more are offered throughout the cities, and it is advisable to book them a day in advance.
