Located just before Chiang Mai on the road to the North of Thailand, Lampang is often overlooked by travelers. However, the Lampang Province is a vast, mountainous area known for its natural beauty and emblematic Buddhist temples. Lampang's Temples
Wat Chaloem Phra Kiat Phrachomklao Rachanusorn is an exceptional and well-hidden gem among all temples. The Chedi sits atop a mountain, offering a breathtaking 360° view of the entire province. To reach the temple, you can rent a scooter, car, or hire a tuk-tuk to take you to the base of the mountain. From there, you can either take a Songthaew Taxi for a small fee or walk about 500 meters (1640 feet) to reach the beginning of the staircase.

You’ll then need to climb another 500 meters (1640 feet) to reach the peak of the mountain, where you can explore the distinctive golden and white pagodas while enjoying an incredible view. This attraction is highly underrated and is sure to be a highlight of any trip to Thailand. The path to the top of the mountain is stunning but steep, so be sure to bring water and take your time making the ascent.

More temples to discover:
  • Wat Chiang Rai (white Temple)
  • Wat Pong Sanuk Nua (UNESCO, mix of Lanna and Burmese Shan)
  • Wat Chedi Sao Lang (20 white chedis)
  • Wat Phrathat Lampang Luang (recommended, big temple complex)
  • Wat Doi Prachan Mae Tha (recommended, on top of a mountain, stunning view)

Stunning Nature

Lampang offers beautiful natural scenery at Chae Son National Park, including its emerald pools. However, it can be difficult to reach the national park by scooter, car, or taxi. Additionally, swimming is not allowed in the pools. Nevertheless, the journey and the adventure are worth it to see the vibrant wildlife and the intriguing, mysterious rainforest.
